Shelton Man Charged After Fight Outside Cafe

Shelton police are charging a man after a fight outside a city nightspot.

The call came in around 12:30 Sunday morning to Cuppy’s Cafe on Coram Avenue.  Police say they found a 52-year-old man who’d been beaten about the head and face, slipping in and out of consciousness.

The suspect, 21-year-old Shelton resident Michael O’Connell, was still on scene when officers arrived.  He’s being charged with assault and breach of peace.

O’Connell is being held on $50,000 bond and due in court later today.

The victim was brought to the hospital in serious condition but has since been released.
