Man Whose Vehicle Plunged Off Overpass Dies

Richard Mazella, 46, of Clinton, died Wednesday morning at Hartford Hospital from injuries sustained when his vehicle went off a highway overpass in Windsor Tuesday morning and plunged some 40-feet, landing in the median dividing Interstate 91 north and southbound, catching fire in the process.

No one else was injured.

Windsor police are investigating the crash that happened around 10 a.m. Tuesday in which a Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling northbound in the H-O-V lane left Interstate 91  at exit 37,  and continued straight across Route 305, smashing through a ten-inch retaining wall with a steel grate.

Emergency crews had to pull the driver out of the vehicle.

Windsor police are asking that anyone who may have seen the accident from Route 305 to call them.
