Hartford Welcomes Thousands For Sandy Hook “Run For The Families”

15-thousand runners crowded onto the streets of downtown Hartford Saturday morning for a 5-k road race .  The “Sandy Hook Run for the Families, ” organized by the Hartford Marathon Foundation, collected $438,131 for the Sandy Hook School Support Fund.   (Click here to see more photos)

Wearing Number 1. Governor Dannel Malloy joined the run,  designed to honor the memory of the 20 first-graders and six school stafff members, and to unite in hope for the future.

Race organizers say it was the largest field for an inaugural run ever in Connecticut.  Runners started in front of Hartford’s Old State House through downtown, along Capitol Avenue, Buckingham, Laurel,  Farmington Avenue and finished beneath the Bushnell Park Arch.
