Small Fire Behind Outfield Wall Of New Britain Stadium
New Britain Police and the Fire Marshal’s office are investigating after a fire on the grounds of New Britain Stadium just after 1:30 Thursday afternoon.) Fire Marshal Michael Ronalter says it took less than ten minutes to put out the fire, which was mostly in the artificial turf behind the outfield wall, under the remains of an 80-by-30 foot batting cage which collapsed in last month’s blizzard.
Ronalter says further investigation will be needed to determine whether something was placed on the turf to help it burn.
He says some youth were seen leaving the area before the fire, and is asking anyone who may have information to call the fire marshal’s office at (860) 826-3450 or New Britain Police at (860) 826-3000.
