Flags To Fly At Half Staff To Honor Soldier Killed In Explosion

Governor Malloy has ordered that flags be flown at half staff in order of a Connecticut Marine who died this week in a training exercise.

Lance Corporal Roger Muchnick  was one of seven Marines killed Monday night when a mortar shell exploded during a training exercise at an ammunition depot in Nevada.

Muchnick, who was 23 and a graduate of Staples High School, was a member of the 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force out of Camp LeJeune, North Carolina.

The governor said state and federal flags should remain until half staff until Lance Corporal Muchnick’s burial or memorial service.
