Fatal Accident Follows Afternoon Snow

An afternoon band of snow made roads slick in the Hartford area today, and caused crashes on all of the major highways.

One person was killed in a 3-vehicle crash on Route 9 northbound near exit 21 in Berlin.

East Berlin Fire Chief Keith Morton says one person went over a guardrail and down an embankment.

“We sent crews to attend to two other injured people, and we had to set up a technical rescue to go down,” Morton said.

The person who went down the embankment died.  The other two injured people were in a vehicle that remained on the highway.

“We have numerous accidents in the greater Hartford area on all the major interstate highways, on the entrance and exit ramps,” said State Police Lieutenant Paul Vance.
