NCAA Women: Quinnnipiac To Play Maryland

AP Sports Writer

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Maryland will be the fourth seed in the Bridgeport Region of the NCAA women’s basketball tournament and will open at home Saturday against Quinnipiac.

The 12th-ranked Terrapins (24-7) will be making their 21st appearance in the tournament and ninth under head coach Brenda Frese. Maryland has lost three of its last five, with both wins coming against Wake Forest.

Quinnipiac (30-3) is champion of the Northeast Conference. This is the school’s first trip to the NCAA women’s tournament.

If Maryland wins the opener, it will face the winner of the Michigan State-Marist game, which will also be held on Saturday.

Maryland is 8-2 in NCAA tournament games at Comcast Center.

Connecticut is the top seed in the Bridgeport Region. The Huskies beat Maryland 63-48 in December.
