Drug Arrest Leads To Assault Suspect
New Britain Police making a drug arrest Saturday wound up making an arrest in a serious assult Friday as well.
Police say police arrested 20-year-old Heriberto Benitez of Elam Street in New Britain near Bond Street and the Broad Street extension, with marijuana packaged for sale in his possession. Police say he resembled the suspect wanted in a Friday assault in which a man was found suffering stab wounds to the neck, chest, stomach and buttocks. He remains in serious condition.
Police say that assault on North Street at about 4:30 p.m. Friday was captured on video, and when they arrested Benitez on the marijuana charge, they also found evidence he had been in a fight, including a bruised and swollen lower lip and a laceration to his right index finger. He was positively identified by the stabbing victim.
Police say he’s charged with a variety of charges, including attempted murder and assault, and was held in lieu of $400, 000 bond.
On 3/15/13 at 4:30 P.M. members of the New Britain Police Department responded to 131 North St on the report of a male who had been stabbed. A male victim was located there suffering from multiple stab wounds to the neck, chest, stomach and buttocks. He was transported to an area trauma center for treatment where he remains in serious condition. The incident was captured on video providing an accurate description of the suspect.
