UConn Women’s Hockey Coach Resigns

STORRS, Conn. (AP) _ The University of Connecticut has announced the resignation of women’s hockey coach Heather Linstad.

Linstad built the program at UConn, hired when the team was established for the 2000-01 season. She has a career record of 322-290-31 in her 13 seasons at Connecticut and eight at Northeastern, ranking sixth on the NCAA Division I wins list.

Linstad never won a Hockey East title at UConn, but coached the Huskies into the championship game in 2005 and 2010.  She also coached the USA’s Under-18 team to a silver medal at the 2012 World Championship in the Czech Republic.

But, the Huskies won just seven games over the past two years, finishing this season a disappointing 3-29-3.

The school said it will conduct a national search for her successor.
