New London Concludes Gun Buyback

The New London Police Department concluded its Gun Buyback program Sunday. During this four-day event the department exchanged firearms for gift cards. The funds for this program were provided by donations from private citizens and area civic and religious groups. During the fourth day police took in 18 handguns, 26 long guns and 1 assault weapon in exchange for $3,900 in gift cards.

The four-day program netted 255 total firearms which included: 116 handguns, 120 long guns and 2 assault weapons. In addition 3 handguns and 14 long guns that did not qualify for the buyback were also turned in to police for destruction.

During this event 159 individuals turned weapons into police and $20,875 in gift cards were given out in exchange for the firearms turned in.

All of the turned in firearms will be sent to the Connecticut State Police Firearms Unit for destruction.
