Three Courthouses Evacuated

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Bomb threats have prompted evacuations and police searches of three Connecticut courthouses.

Authorities say a local TV station and a state police dispatcher received similar calls Friday morning warning of bombs at state Superior Courts in Hartford, New Haven and Waterbury. The threats were made at about 8 a.m., before the courthouses opened.

Police bomb squads searched the three buildings and didn’t find anything. All three courts were to reopen.

State police Lt. J. Paul Vance says detectives have begun a criminal investigation.

State Judicial Branch officials told jurors not to report to the Hartford courthouse Friday because of the snowstorm. First-day jurors at the New Haven courthouse also were told not to report.

Several state courthouses opened late and told jurors not to show up because of the weather.
