SCITUATE, R.I. (AP) _ A Connecticut man has been charged with operating a large-scale marijuana growing operation in Rhode Island after police seized 90 pot plants from a home in Scituate.

The State Police said Friday that officers arrested 37-year-old James Lewis of Baltic, Conn., after receiving a report of suspicious activities at the home, which they say Lewis was renting.

Authorities say Lewis told them that he has applied to Rhode Island health officials to legally supply marijuana to patients enrolled in the state’s medical marijuana program. State law requires such suppliers to be Rhode Island residents and limits their number of marijuana plants to 24.

Lewis was arraigned Friday morning. A message left at his home was not returned Friday afternoon.
