State Attorney General Warns Of Robocalls

State Attorney General George Jepsen has a warning for consumers: ignore robocalls from a person on the other end claiming to be from “cardmember services”.

Jepsen says they’re only scammers offering to significantly lower credit card interest rates.  Jepsen says his office has received a number of complaints about the robocalls.

He says the caller is directed to press “1”, after which they are linked with a telemarketer who says they’ll deliver the reduced rate card for a fee.

The federal trade commission says once the recipient is duped out of sometimes thousands of dollars, the companies do little or nothing to lower the card’s interest rate.

Jepsen advises hanging up if a consumer receives such a call and never offer personal information over the phone.
