The name of the man shot and killed by Norwich police Sunday evening has been released.
Police were dispatched after seven o’clock Sunday night on a call for a despondent man on Laurel Hill Avenue. That’s when they confronted 52-year-old Michael Dugas of Norwich.
Police say Dugas ignored officers commands and pulled a gun on them. State police Sergeant Donna Tadiello says that’s when police then opened fire. She says Dugas was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
State police are leading the investigation, as is standard protocol when an officer discharges a firearm.
Tadiello says residents were advised to stay indoors during the ordeal but the neighborhood was not evacuated. She says they’re still trying to determine how many Norwich police officers were involved.
