Police: Mother Stole $200K From Disabled Daughter

A 59-year-old woman is accused of stealing more than $200,000 dollars from her daughter’s trust account. The daughter lives in a group home.

Joan Wilkinson is charged with larceny and money laundering.

She turned herself in to Southington Police Friday.

Investigators say she had been taking the money since 2005.

The funds were in a special needs trust.  A special needs trust is typically set up to provide money for a person with a disability.

Police say Wilkinson named herself as trustee, and withdrew funds from investment accounts, then deposited the money in her own bank account.

The State Department of Social Services is also involved in the investigation.
