Aunt In Silver Alert Case Arrested

Two sisters missing from Torrington who were the subject of a Silver Alert have been found,  and their aunt faces charges in the case.

Melissa Sturz told police her sister,  Jennifer Wheeler, was supposed to pick her up after work Thursday.  Five-year-old Ariana and three-year-old Savannnah were with Wheeler,  who never showed up as arranged.

Police say it turned out Wheeler drove to Waterbury with the children instead,  and spent the night at a friend’s home, where she used cocaine.   She returned with the children Friday morning to her sister’s home,   whereopon Melissa Sturz called police.

They found a crack cocaine pipe and other drug paraphernalia on her, and charged Jennifer Wheeler with risk of injury to a minor, reckless endangerment and possession of drug paraphernalia.
