Distributor Of Convenience Store Items Arrested In Drug Case

Torrington Police say they’ve arrested a distributor of convenience store items operating throughout the state and have seized his Lexus SUV after a lengthy investigation into distribution and sale of synthetic marijuana and the controlled substance known as “bath salts.”

Police say 59-year-old Julian Scheibel faces charges of possession of controlled substances,  possession with intent to sell, and possession in a school zone.

Police say Scheibel’s business distributes such items as phone cards, vending machine products and electronic cigarettes,  but when they stopped him about noon Wednesday on Main Street in Torrington, they also found in his possession more than 100 pouches of synthetic marijuana, prepared for sale, and more than a dozen containers of the drug known as “bath salts.”  They also seized more than $1,100 cash,

Police declined to further discuss the case, saying it is an ongoing investigation.
