The Finance Committee of the State Board of Regents for Higher Education postponed any action Tuesday, but a proposed 5.75% increase in tuition and fees within the state university system and the community colleges continues to move forward.
The committee delayed its vote after hearing that new data suggests that a cut in state aid would not be as severe as originally thought. It wants to see the data before sending its vote on to the full Board of Regents to consider, at its March 21 meeting.
Opponents of the increase, including student groups and the Connecticut Citizen Action Group were on hand, organizers saying personnel cuts and tuition hikes are not the way to proceed.
