Cities In Court Over Police Car Collision

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) _ Bridgeport and Norwalk are facing off in court over a police car collision.

The Connecticut Post reports that Norwalk has sued for reimbursement from Bridgeport for compensation to Norwalk officer Rafael Fonseca Jr. His personal vehicle was struck on Feb. 3 by Bridgeport officer Carl Leonzi Sr.

A lawsuit says Fonseca, had back and shoulder injuries.

The police report says Leonzi was driving behind Fonseca in an unmarked Bridgeport police vehicle with lights and siren on when Fonseca suddenly stopped. Leonzi’s car slid into Fonseca’s car.

Fonseca said he heard a siren and stopped but did not see emergency lights.

The injuries have cost Norwalk more than $8,000 in benefits. The city wants Bridgeport to pay the expenses and future benefits.

Norwalk also wants reimbursement because Fonseca’s injuries have affected his work.
