Arrest Made In New London Home Invasion

Police in New London received a 911 call from a woman reporting that a man had pushed his way into a first-floor apartment at 49 Garfield Avenue. Officers responded to the scene around 7pm Saturday and found the suspect walking away from the apartment.

Hector Ortega, 30, was arrested without incident.

Authorities believe Ortega knocked on the victim’s apartment door, and when the woman opened the door, he forced his way in.

Police say the suspect brandished a piece of metal rebar during the incident, and a resident suffered minor injuries due to a struggle.

Ortega is charged with Home Invasion, first degree Burglary, second degree Assault, Carrying a Dangerous Weapon, second degree Reckless Endangerment, and second degree Criminal Mischief. He is being held on $100,000 bond and will be arraigned in court on Tuesday.
