New Haven Turns Away Non-Essential Traffic

As New Haven continues to clean up from the blizzard, Mayor John DeStefano says the goal is to have streets in all city neighborhoods passable by the middle of the day on Tuesday.  To help,  police are turning away some drivers trying to get into New Haven.

He says crews will also be clearing a wider path on main roads,  and working to remove piles of plowed snow from intersections.

Police are stopping vehicles at four points of entry into New Haven,  to discourage non -essential travel on city streets.  The four are:

·    Fountain Street at the Woodbridge town line
·    Dixwell Avenue at the Hamden town line
·    Whitney Avenue at the Hamden town line
·    Quinnipiac Avenue at the North Haven town line
Anyone whose drive into the city is not necessary will be turned back.

New Haven also announced it is towing vehicles obstructing traffic on local streets.
