Amtrak: HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Amtrak says it’s suspending service in New York and New England before a major snow storm hits the region.

Beginning Friday, southbound service from Boston South Station will be suspended following the departures of a Northeast Regional train at 1:40 p.m. and Acela Express at 1:15 p.m.

Northbound service from New York’s Penn Station will be suspended at 12:30 p.m. and the Acela Express at 1:03 p.m.

Shuttle service between Springfield, Mass., and New Haven, Conn., will be suspended at 10:30 a.m.

Vermonter service also is canceled in each direction between Springfield and St. Albans, Vt.

And Downeaster service is suspended from Brunswick, Maine, at 7:05 a.m. The last northbound departure from Boston North Station is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Connecting service between Albany, N.Y., and Boston to the Lakeshore Limited also is canceled.

Metro-North Railroad NEW YORK (AP) _ Metro-North Railroad says it is providing extra train service to help commuters get home ahead of the winter storm.

Metro-North says it will operate a regular weekday schedule until noon on Friday. Then, between noon and 8 p.m., the railroad will operate a revised schedule with an increase in train service in the afternoon and fewer trains scheduled for after 5p.m.

The railroad warns that train service may be reduced or suspended depending on weather conditions. Customers should check for the latest updates.

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for New York City, Long Island and southern Westchester County for Friday into Saturday.

The weather service says the city should get 10 to 12 inches of snow.

CT Transit CTTRANSIT Express Service will operate a normal morning schedule of trips to Hartford on Friday, Feb. 8.

Early commuter service is tentatively scheduled to depart downtown Hartford at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., later express trips will operate dependent upon weather conditions. It is possible that the early express service could be operated slightly earlier than 1 p.m. – further details available after 9:30 a.m. on Friday.

Local bus service in all operating Divisions may begin to shut down around 6 p.m. on Friday and could possibly be closed all day on Saturday. More details will be available after 9:30am on Friday.
