New Haven Police say they found a .380 caliber handgun in a child’s diaper when they stopped a car on a motor vehicle violation.
Police say patrol officers on Washington Street stopped an SUV with no light on the license plate, and found the driver, 31-year-old Jerry Cruz of New Haven had no license. He told them he was on parole on a narcotics conviction. Police say they found and confiscated a bag of cocaine, then, as they continued to check the vehicle, found a diaper in a pouch behind the seat. Folded into the diaper was a Kel-Tec P3AT .380 handgun.
Police say the gun had previously been reported lost. Police say Cruz has no pistol permit, and, as a convicted felon on parole, is prohibited from possessing a handgun.
He was charged with motor vehicle, drug and weapons charges.
