Local Man Charged In Hoax Bomb At East Hampton School

A 20-year-old East Hampton man already facing state charges now has been indicted on federal charges after a device which appeared to be a bomb was left at the doors of the East Hampton Middle School last month.  (See earlier story)

Sean Doran is charged with one count of “intentionally conveying false or misleading information.”   He pleaded not guilty and was released on $50,000 bond.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Kimberly Mertz said the indictment should be a warning to those who would seek to disrupt or threaten everyday public life.  She said placing a hoax bomb outside a school is “absoutely appalling.

If convicted,  Doran could be sentenced to up to five years in prison and fined up to a quarter million dollars.
