NORTH STONINGTON, Conn. (AP and WTIC-AM) — Police are investigating the shooting of two cows at a farm in North Stonington.

One of the cows shot on the Palmer Farm was injured so severely it was euthanized. Both animals received treatment from a veterinarian.

Eighteen-year-old Asa Palmer says his Ayrshire heifer named Angel had to be put down after her jaw was nearly blown off.

“You try to do the right thing all the time, and somebody does something like this… It really hurts,” Palmer said. “It’s probably the saddest thing I have ever seen in my life.”

Angel’s tongue swelled up, and she was unable to eat or drink, and was breathing out of one nostril.

The animals were shot in a field late Friday night or early Saturday.

Anyone with information about the shooting is being asked to contact the resident state troopers in North Stonington.
