Cold weather causing shifts in the ground has led to a number of water main breaks around the area. The Metropolitan District Commission has responded to one  in West Hartford,  in an eight-inch main on Bainbridge Road near Cumberland and one in an eight- inch main on Hockanum Drive in East Hartford.

A problem also was reported in a valve at Ellsworth Road and South Main Street om West Hartford.  It did not require interruption of service for repairs.

Regional District 16,  made up of Beacon Falls and Prospect,  cancelled classes at Woodland Regional High School in Beacon Falls because of a problem in a pipe leading into the school.
