Three Teens In Hospital, Two Critical After Avon Crash

Three Avon teens were taken to Hartford Hospital Wednesday night, two via LifeStar after the vehicle they were in smashed into a utility poll in the 190 block of Lovely Street in Avon (Route 177) around 10:30 p.m.

The driver, 16, and a second passenger are in critical condition. The third passenger suffered non-critical injuries. All three are between the ages of 16 and 19.

Power was out for about 100 residents before being restored this morning and the road is re-opened after being closed overnight.

In Connecticut, 16- and 17-year-old drivers for the first six months after obtaining a license may only drive with a parent or legal guardian who has their license, a licensed driving instructor or a person who is at least 20-years-old, who is instructing and has had a license for at least four years with no suspensions. For the second six-months those same drivers can have immediate family, i.e. brothers and sisters, in their vehicle.
