State police say the investigation into the cause of Tuesday’s fire in Putnam in which two children died remains under investigation.  Police say  nine-month-old Ava Auger and two-year-old Alexis Auger both died of smoke inhalation.

Police say specialists from the State Fire Marshal’s office were called in to examine the multi-family home on Prospect Street for possible building code violations.  The Victorian-style home was built in 1867.
