The University of Connecticut has named a new assistant coach, responsible for running backs and special teams. Kermit Buggs was defensive coordinator at Lock Haven University last year, and was a member of the Penn State football staff from 2003 to 2011.
Buggs, who is from Hampton, Virginia, and is a 1995 graduate of Norfolk State University. He was the school’s 1992-93 recipient of the Vince Lombardi Award for Leadership and Academic Achievement. He coached the Surry County, Virginia, High School team to a 34 and 14 record from 1999 to 2002. His team the Division Virginia State championship in 1999 and Buggs was Virginia’s Division I Coach of the Year.
At Penn State, Buggs was part of two Big Ten championship teams, in 2005 and 2008, and seven bowl teams.
