Vernon police responded to an accident on West Street just after 5pm Saturday that involved a car and two children crossing the street on foot.

Authorities say Kristopher Hansen, 50, of Vernon was heading southbound when his vehicle hit the children.

An ambulance took a 9 year old to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. The child was alert and conscious at the time.

Police said the second child involved in the accident suffered minor injuries and was transported from the scene by a private vehicle.

The condition of the hosiptalized child is unknown.

Police continue to investigate the incident.
