Two Arrests In East Hampton Fake Bomb Incident

Two people have been taken into custody after placing a fake bomb at the front entrance of an East Hampton school early Saturday morning.

Custodians at East Hampton Middle School noticed the object and called police just after 8:30AM. The State Bomb Squad was called to the scene and they determined that the device was a fake, facsimile bomb that contained no explosives.

Police were able to locate the suspects after reviewing surveillance footage taken at the school.

Sean Doran, 20, of East Hampton and Kayla Sypek, 20, also of East Hampton later confessed to investigators that they were involved in the incident.

Authorities say the suspects found a fake bomb among debris at a paintball facility on Bear Swap Road in East Hampton.

Doran and Sypek have been charged with reckless endangerment, breach of peace, and threatening in the first degree.

They are being held on $100,000 bond and will be arraigned in Middlesex Superior Court on January 14th.

The FBI is also investigating and Doran and Sypek could also face federal charges.
