1,676 Confirmed Flu Cases In Connecticut

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ The Department of Public Health says there’s been a sharp increase in flu cases across Connecticut in recent weeks.

The agency announced Thursday that 1,676 laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza have been reported in the state so far this season.

Public Health Commissioner Jewell Mullen is urging residents to take steps to avoid getting the flu, including getting vaccinated. She said even though the flu is here, it is not too late.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention encourages that everyone over the age of six months be vaccinated. People are urged to avoid close contact with those who are sick, to stay home after becoming ill, and to avoid touching their eyes, nose or mouth.

Health officials report widespread cases of the flu in more than 40 states.
