Westport police have charged an 86-year-old town resident with bringing a BB gun to a meeting of the town’s governing board last night.
At around 9:15, a police officer in Westport Town Hall was notified by two Representative Town Meeting members that a woman identified as Estelle Margolis appeared to have entered the auditorium with a weapon wrapped in a white cloth.
When approached by the officer and a plain clothes detective, police say Margolis told them it was to show how easy it is to purchase a gun. In addition the the BB gun, police say Margolis also brought a box of .45-caliber ammunition with her to the meeting.
Police issued a misdemeanor summons for breach of peace to Margolis. She’s due January 18th in Norwalk Superior Court.
