Streak Snappers – 12/29/12 – The 1 v 2 matchup was over in the blink of an eye. At 5-5, UConn went on a 19-4 run and the rest is history. Another blowout in this series, the lowest shooting percentage EVER by a Stanford team and the least amount of FG’s in program history in 11. Not that UConn lit up the scoreboard as the Huskies scored a season low point wise. But when you hold a team to 35 points, you should win. The Huskies were very, very good defensively at Maples Pavilion. Stefanie Dolson’s off season insanity workouts really paid off in a game like this one. She got the assignment to stop Chiney Ogumike and make the all american earn every one of her 18 (on 6/22 shooting).
And yes Husky Fans, Kaleena Mosqueda Lewis is becoming the No 1 scoring option on a team of scoring depth. She may be the best pure shooter this program has ever had. Which I know says a lot. But now she’s adding that inside game and feeding off everything Kelly Faris has shown from a work ethic has her in a great state of mind . Faris again made a few plays that don’t show up in the box score and Bria Hartley has been very good the three games since the exam break. Some mental mistakes today, but overall, real good.
Is there plenty to work on after this win ? Absolutely…It’s the end of December. Many tests ahead with the Big East season on the horizon and Duke & Balyor down the road. But what we saw today on the road tells me that UConn & Baylor are the top 2 teams in WCBB. Yes, UConn is a threat again to win it all..
Happy New Year !
