The operator of an indoor softball facility in Bloomfield is offering his facility for a charity event Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 26 and 27, to raise money for the “Sandy Hook School Support Fund.” David Rocha, a former Newtown resident, says within hours of announcing the event, he had more than forty teams and twemth umpires interested in participating.
Rocha, one of whose children attended Sandy Hook Elementary School, says he’ll make his Fastpitch Nation facility available for as many games as participants can play from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m those days. He says it’s not a tournament, but a series of as many games as possible for different age groups over a two-day period.
Rocha is asking teams to donate a minimum of $150 to play, with all money collected going to the fund.
Rocha says teams from Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, New York and Massachusetts as well as Connecticut have expressed an interest in taking part. He says any team interested in taking part can e-mail him at firstname.lastname@example.org
