Teacher Resigns From Job On YouTube
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (CBS Connecticut) – A teacher in Rhode Island made sure everyone heard his resignation.
Stephen Round, a former second-grade teacher in the Providence Public School system, read his resignation letter in a YouTube video, then uploaded it for public consumption.
The video was added last week, but has already pulled in over 153,000 hits so far, as of Wednesday afternoon.
In the video he clearly states his reasons for quitting.
“I can no longer work for a school district that is so structured,” he said. “It allows no room for alternative methods of teaching and learning.”
According to WPRI-TV, Round made the video after he was denied a chance to read his letter out loud.
The Providence school district released a statement on the matter.
“We regret that Mr. Round has found his recent professional experience dissatisfactory [sic], but we thank the hundreds of teachers in our schools who continue to make learning exciting and enjoyable for their students every day,” officials were quoted as saying in the statement.
