Last night around 11:10 p.m., the Fairfield Fire Department was dispatched to a vehicle accident with possible injuries involving a parked tractor trailer and two passenger cars at the entrance to the I-95 southbound rest area near exit 21.

First arriving fire units found the driver deceased and trapped in the vehicle, a Nissan Sentra. The driver is only identified as an approximately 41-year-old male pending notification of family by State Police. The truck was placarded as carrying flammable liquids and fire personnel ensured that there were no leaks of the chemicals from the truck in addition to the routine hazards from the accident.

Assistant Chief Scott Bisson stated, “This is the second fatal vehicle accident in the past two weeks where a tractor trailer parked in the rest area were struck by passenger cars from the highway.” On Dec. 1, a tractor trailer was struck by a car killing the truck driver as he slept on the northbound side rest area of I-95 near exit 21.

The accident remains under investigation by the Connecticut State Police. The victim’s name has not been released.
