The on court “Pre-Exams” – The Women of Storrs have cruised thru the first six games of the season un-challenged. Averaging 92ppg and shooting 58%..While yielding 43ppg and 28% shooting. And two of the wins against Top 20 teams in routs of Texas A&M and Purdue. This week, two top 10 teams visit the Nutmeg State. Maryland (10 coaches poll/11 AP) tomorrow night at the XL and Penn St (6th) in Storrs Thursday. The HOPE is there that UConn will be tested in these two games more and any of the first six.

The Terps, playing UConn in WBB for the first time ever, have already lost two guards to season ending ACL injuries. The latest, Laurin Mincy last Wednesday in their win at Nebraska. No team UConn will play this season as a whole has more size than Maryland, led by 6-2 All American Alyssa Thomas, the reigning ACC player of the year. But 6-3 Tianna Hawkins is having a monster year so far. Averaging a double-double at 20p-10rpg. The question will be how well will Maryland handle UConn’s pressure ? If they can, well it could be a game. But if they fall into the trap that ACC teams usually do, which is try and run with UConn, it’ll be the same fate as the rest, over early. Not only hasn’t UConn lost to an ACC team since 2007, most haven’t been pretty. That’s why I’m skeptical about this one.

The Lady Lions visit Storrs for the first time in the Geno era Thursday. Not since the early 80’s has a UConn-Penn State game been on campus. Either in season events or NCAA tournament meetings. UConn goes there next season. After disposing of the Lady Lions in the Sweet 16 last March, they bring back their talented backcourt of Sr Alex Bentley and Jr Maggie Lucas. But the question is, do they have enough talent to beat the Huskies ? It’ll be very interesting to see the results of both games to  get a gauge on just how far the gap is in WCBB between the elite and the very good.

I understand less than 10,000 tix have been sold for Maryland and less than 7,000 for Penn St this week. I know there are special deals for the first two months of the season. If you have the funding and would love to see a terrific team perform, come on out and see the Huskies.Trust me, I know of the economic issues that we deal with these days and spendable income is tighter than ever. If you can’t be there in person, you can always tune us in on the radio..Pregame at 6:30 on WTIC N/T 1080 and online at
