New Britain police have made an arrest in an early-morning fire Saturday that heavily damaged a vacant, multi-family structure at 38 Winthrop Street. Firefighters responded to the building around 4:20 a.m. Saturday and took several hours to fully extinguish the blaze.
Police arrested 40-year-0ld John DiPietro around 9 p.m. DiPietro lives at 28 Winthrop Street. Police said DiPietro confessed to starting the fire. No one was injured in the blaze.
DiPietro was charged with first-degree arson and third-degree burglary. He is being held on a $250,000 bond.
