Sentencing In Wells Fargo Depot Heist This Week

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ One of the last defendants in the 1983 robbery of $7 million from a Wells Fargo armored car depot in West Hartford is facing sentencing for his role in the record-setting heist.

Norberto Gonzalez Claudio, captured by the FBI last year in Puerto Rico, had been one of two remaining fugitives in the crime carried out by Los Macheteros, a militant group dedicated to independence for the U.S. Caribbean territory.

Gonzalez, who accepted a deal that calls for him to serve five years in prison, is scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday in federal court in Hartford.

Gonzalez, one of 19 defendants in the case, pleaded guilty in June. He acknowledged helping to plan the heist and arrange for the money to be sent to Mexico.
