The first snow of the season for some parts of the state has prompted the Connecticut Triple A to remind drivers to take it easy on the roads.
First and foremost, slow down. Steve Rourke, the manager for the Connecticut Triple A driving school, says keep a safe following distance between you and the car in front of you. That’s generally between eight and 10 seconds. Accelerate and decelerate slowly. He also says don’t power up hills and once you reach the crest reduce speed and proceed downward slowly.
If you go into a spin or skid, Rourke suggests steering in the direction you want to go and be as gentle with the gas and brake as possible.
