Federal officials say an East Hartford policeman has been arrested in a child pornography investigation. Prosecutors say a search 48-year-old Andrew Nielsen’s South Windsor residence found DVDs containing images and video of child pornography.
Nielsen is alleged to have purchased multiple DVDs from a foreign company and had them shipped to his residence.
The East Hartford town website says Nielsen has twice been awarded Distinguished Service citations, one for what it called his “extraordinary and heroic” help evacuating elderly residents during a nursing home fire 13 years ago, and one for spotting a suspect after a convenience store was robbed at knife-point seven years ago and helping track down the suspect.
If he’s convicted of a charge of receiving child pornography, Nielsen faces a prison term of at least five years, up to 20 years, and a quarter million dollar fine.
