Pedestrian In Hit-Run Dies; Driver Arrested

A pedestrian struck by a hit-and-run driver overnight has died,  and Waterbury police have arrested a suspect in the case.

18-year-old Joshua Rodriguez, who suffered head and internal injuries in the accident at the Route 8 ramp and the Route 73 connector,  died of his injuries this afternoon.  His companion, 21-year- old Richard Resto of Waterbury is listed in stable condition.  He’s being treated for leg and hip injuries.

Police charged Michael McHaney with felony evading responsiblity,  and manslaughter and assault charges. He’s held in lieu of half a million dollars bail. Police say he admitted being the driver.

Police seized his car,  a 2000 model Chevrolet Cavalier.
