The University of Connecticut says there is enough money to start work on a new basketball facility next to Gampel Pavilion.  UConn says donations now total $24 million of the $32 million needed,   and the school will finance the project so construction can begin as soon as possible.

It’s expected to take two years to complete.

University President Susan Herbst says the school is fortunate to have supporters around the country who “have dedicated themselves to the academic advancement of the university,  the research ambitions of our faculty and students, as well as athletics.”

Athletic Director Warde Manuel says UConn will continue to raise money to cover the remaining 25% of the project.
