Three kittens found abandoned in a cardboard box this week in Hartford are being cared for by volunteers.  The felines were discovered Tuesday by a trash collector.  They are about three weeks old and, despite some health issues, they’re doing better.

Judy Levy is the president of West Hartford-based Animal Friends of Connecticut.  She says she retrieved the kittens and took them to a veterinary technician friend of hers.

Levy says animal abandonment is a major concern in Hartford.  She says last month one kitten suffered serious injuries when a child attempted to flush it down a toilet.  Levy says it will be at least five weeks before the kittens are ready for adoption.  For informtion or to donate to Animal Friends of Connecticut, call (860) 232-1393.
