NEW FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) _ State police say a New Fairfield man fatally shot a masked teenager in self-defense during what appeared to be an attempted burglary, then discovered the youth was his son.
Troopers say 15-year-old Tyler Giuliano was killed outside a neighbor’s home on Meetinghouse Hill Circle at about 1 a.m. Thursday. Authorities say a woman in the home believed someone was breaking in and called the teen’s father, who lived next door. The father grabbed a gun and went to investigate.
Troopers say the father confronted the teen, who was wearing a ski mask and black clothing. State police say the father fired his gun when the teen came at him with a weapon.
The father, Jeffrey Giuliano, is a fifth-grade teacher in town.
Police are investigating. No charges have been filed.
A message seeking comment was left for Giuliano.
