NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Darrelle Revis’ season-ending ACL tear is causing the Jets to take desperate measures.

According to the Daily News, Rex Ryan is ready to convert special teamer Joe McKnight to cornerback.  The role isn’t expected to be a full-time role as McKnight will split time between offense and defense.

McKnight practiced as cornerback two weeks ago.  Now, Ryan is ready to convert the former USC standout running back to cornerback.  He feels the Jets’ special teams star has all the tools to play defensive back.

“He has the necessary skills to be able to play corner,” Ryan told the Daily News. “He’s got the speed, the size, the athleticism, the ball skills. Everything you look for in a corner. So, I don’t think there’s any reason not to think that Joe McKnight couldn’t be a corner.”

McKnight played briefly at cornerback during Week 4 of the 2011 NFL season against the Baltimore Ravens.

The pressure is on former first round pick Kyle Wilson will step into Revis’ role.  He will play opposite of Antonio Cromartie for the Jets going forward.
