“Hot” Property Was Stolen Stove

Police who pick up suspects with stolen property sometimes refer to the merchandise as “hot” —  but in the case of one New Haven arrest ,   the item in question was not just “hot” — it was a stove.

An officer called to investigate a burglary in progress spotted a man wheeling a stove down the street.  Officer Josh Kyle says the man, 45-year-old Brian Howard of New Haven, told him he found it in the back yard of the apartment building on Platt Street.  When he went to the building he found the back window broken and the back door open,  and an empty space in the kitchen of the second floor apartment where there had been a stove.

Howard was charged with burglary and larceny.
