One Dead in Wrong Way Crash

VERNON, Conn. (AP) _ State police are trying to determine why a Hartford woman drove onto the wrong side of Interstate 84 in Vernon and caused a head-on crash that killed another woman.

Troopers say the accident happened at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday in the westbound HOV commuter lane. A 52-year-old Ashford woman, Jeanne Krapf, was killed in the crash.

Authorities say the wrong-way driver, Giselle Garcia, was flown by helicopter to Hartford Hospital. Her condition hasn’t been released.
Troopers say both women were wearing their seat belts.
State police say several people called 911 to report a wrong-way driver going eastbound in the westbound commuter lane.
