Newington police have released some details of an accident which affected traffic on the Berlin Turnpike during Friday morning rush hour.
Police say a police officer driving a cruiser slowed for a tractor trailer which was stopped for a red light in the center lane at the Prospect Street intersection. When he saw a vehicle approaching behind him at a high rate of speed, he tried to move out of the way.
The car struck the left side of the police cruiser and the back of the tractor trailer.
The driver of a Honda Civic was extricated from his vehicle and he and the policeman were taken to a hospital for treatment of their injuries. The tractor trailer operator was not injured.
Police are asking any witnesses to the accident to call Newington police.
